From May 22 to 27, 2023, the leader in industrial washing of reusable containers and packaging opened its doors for the first time in 30 years of existence.
The opportunity to welcome many players from the national and international ecosystem such as the professional networks Ligépack, Réseau Vrac & Réemploi, the NewERA Alliance, No plastic in my sea, Zero Waste Europe, BuddiePack, Resolve, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, as well as actors committed to the reduction of single use and the development of the reuse of packaging in mass distribution, commercial & collective catering and for the event sector.
The opportunity to present the details of the commercial partnership with the Impact Group via their Re-Uz brand in order to accelerate the territorial network of industrial washing centers for event cups in view of the 2024 Olympics, and gastronorm containers used in collective catering by home delivery players who must switch to reusable containers since January 1, 2023 and those in the middle school which they will have to get started by 2025 at the latest, in order to eliminate the single use of plastic in the cooking or heating of dishes as indicated by the EGALIM Law.
This week rich in sharing also made it possible to recall the two European projects aimed at scientifically studying the reuse of containers and packaging: R3pack et BuddiePack. The latter of which we are part, aims to define in which use cases plastic is compatible with the reuse of primary containers. Funded by the European Commission, these projects are spread over 3 years. Initial results show that plastic can be used in particular for short food contact times and cold dishes without risk to human health.
In total, almost 200 visitors were received to discover the transport, washing and storage of primary, secondary and tertiary reusable packaging, whether plastic, stainless steel or glass. Among these visitors, we also received several media such as Digest Packaging, Food Process, Catering21, The Pro Kitchen, RIA, Emballage Magazine, Markets and In Essonne Succeed.
Finally, in a rapidly changing regulatory context both at the national level via the Green Industry Law, that at European level with the discussion on the PPWR regulations and at the international level with the Treaty on Plastic Pollution, it was also an opportunity to present that the reuse of packaging on a large scale has existed for +30 years, demonstrating the RPE activities and that it is economically, environmentally and safe for human health. There is therefore no longer any obstacle to deploying these reuse loops for all industrial sectors and markets.
