White paper “Goal: Zero Plastic Waste”: a path towards reducing single-use plastic packaging

White paper: Objective of zero plastic waste

Last updated: 06 / 01 / 2025

Written by the city of Paris via its “Eau de Paris” label as part of the Tank action, the municipality is publishing its white paper “Objective Zero Plastic Waste”, intended to present to the general public the actions carried out by the city as well as teaching and advice to reduce the use of single-use plastic for water consumption.

What is the aim of the “Zero Plastic Waste Goal” white paper?

“At the Solidays Festival, of the 600000 cups made available to festival-goers, 40000 are not collected.”

This is one of the statistics which demonstrates the need to put in place actions and measures to reduce waste linked to single-use plastics. Thus, 30 partners from the reuse and re-use ecosystem came together to write this white paper. The main goal: to support each structure in implementing actions aimed at eliminating single-use plastic containers regarding water consumption.

How is the white paper composed?

This white paper consists of three main parts:

  • The first part focuses on the actions that must be taken beforehand to implement a so-called "zero single-use waste" approach, regardless of the structure that wishes to commit to reducing single-use plastic containers. This white paper therefore questions the relevance of reusable cups as an alternative and shows how to communicate positively around tap water.
  • The second part is dedicated to actions and advice adapted to each structure, type of user and usage situation (schools, administrative establishments, sporting events, etc.)
  • Finally, the appendices illustrate expert testimonies and concrete cases of actions and systems implemented by different organizations (private companies, local authorities, etc.)

This book therefore represents an excellent way to share good practices for improving water consumption and thus inventing another mode of consumption by promoting reuse and reuse. Congratulations to Eau de Paris and all the partners for their writing and involvement.
