The European project BUDDIE-PACK, funded by the new Horizon Europe program, was launched on September 21 and 22 in Oyonnax (France). Launched for a period of 3,5 years with a budget of nearly 7 million euros, ETERNITY Systems and 19 partners from 6 different countries will together develop solutions to expand the plastic reuse loop from an economic, ecological and operational point of view.
This circular economy project aims to implement a systemic approach for the large-scale deployment of reusable plastic packaging (EPR) based on a multidisciplinary approach combining social, technological and economic innovations. The project will leverage behavioral innovation to promote consumer acceptance of reusable plastic packaging by analyzing the drivers and psychology of reuse among consumers.
Judicious synergies with technological innovations will be developed to manufacture packaging meeting EPR requirements based on innovative designs and recyclable materials. The project will focus on innovative cleaning solutions provided by ETERNITY Systems to ensure consumer safety against possible contamination and ageing of EPRs during repeated use, as well as the durability of their functional properties to avoid food spoilage. BUDDIE-PACK will significantly reduce the production of single-use plastic packaging, reduce water and energy consumption and avoid the release of microplastics into the oceans.
Viable economic models will ensure the sustainability of the solutions proposed through the profitability of stakeholders throughout the value chain, including solutions based on social and solidarity economy models.
