Business partnership between Eternity Systems & Packaging Services Europe

This operation allows Eternity Systems and PSE to have a total of 16 industrial washing centers at European level, both for industrial packaging (crates, bins, pallets, silos, hoppers, etc.) and for primary containers (pots, jars, tupperware, cups, bottles, food trays , etc.).

Eternity Systems, French expert in the industrial washing of reusable containers and packaging for 25 years is a leader in the food industry and PSE, English expert in the management of reusable packaging (washing, repair, storage) for all sectors (food, automotive, or even pharmaceuticals) announces the signature of a strategic partnership in order to be able to accelerate the territorial network necessary for the deployment of bulk and reuse, and to support international manufacturers in the deployment of these new product ranges expected by consumers on a European scale.

Indeed, in Europe the number of bulk shops should increase by +87% by 2023 and at the global level the World Economic Forum estimates that reuse could reach up to 70% of consumption by 2030.

Together the 2 companies make it possible to include the value chains in a zero waste approach, from the manufacturer to the consumer. Also today in supply chains there is a lot of waste including disposable films, disposable boxes or disposable pallets. These can be replaced by washable reusable pallets, crates and bins, regardless of the sector (e-commerce, automotive, cosmetics, agro-industries, etc.). This allows on the one hand to be part of an ecological approach, but also to reduce dependence on foreign raw materials and therefore inflation. But also to anticipate future regulatory changes as it is already the case in France where the AGEC Law announces the implementation of an EPR on industrial packaging from 2025. It is highly likely that this will then be deployed at European level.

In addition, the global objectives for reducing single use and protecting biodiversity also aim to develop bulk and reuse for consumers, particularly in the agri-food, cosmetics and detergent sectors.

Remember that in January 2018, the European Commission adopted the first comprehensive global strategy on plastics “Single-Use Plastics Directive".

The SUP Directive was originally proposed to tackle the single-use plastic items found most often on beaches, as well as lost and abandoned fishing gear.

The SUP Directive defines “single-use plastic” as a product entirely or partly made from plastic and which is not designed or placed on the market to accomplish, during its lifetime, several trips or rotations in being returned to a producer to be refilled or reused for the same purpose for which it was designed. Therefore, the definition also includes single-use paper items with plastic lining, such as paper cups and plates but with a plastic layer (also called plastic film) and single-use plastic items made from biological products such as those called “single-use biodegradable”.

The SUP directive establishes:

• An EU-wide ban on single-use plastic cotton swabs, straws, plates, cutlery, drink stirrers, balloon sticks, oxo-degradable plastics and plastic food containers. expanded polystyrene, beverage containers and drink cups by 2021.

•       Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs covering the costs of collection, transportation and treatment, waste clean up and awareness measures for food containers, parcels/packages and packaging, beverage cups, beverage containers, etc. capacity of up to three liters, lightweight plastic carrier bags and fishing tackle by December 31, 2024 and for packages and packaging by January 5, 2023.

•       A significant reduction in the consumption of food containers and beverage cups by 2026, with the possibility for EU countries to adopt stricter market restrictions for these products.

Thus, whether in supermarkets, commercial or collective catering or even events, bulk and reuse must be simple, secure and viable economically, operationally and ecologically. On the one hand, brands must be able to pool a fleet of standardized containers that the consumer can use via a user friendly deposit and collector system, on the other hand, this packaging must be out of circulation for as little time as possible between their dirty collection, their sorting, verification, washing, disinfection, drying and redistribution. It is on this second part that Eternity Systems and PSE are positioned together, drawing on their experience acquired with more than 1 billion packages managed each year.

The Franck andrieux, Chief Business Development Officer of Eternity Systems: “The industrial washing segment is a booming market, pulled upwards on one side by a society increasingly inclined to consume in a more sustainable way and the other by economic players who make serious commitments to meet their expectations. The sanitary and now geopolitical crises are forcing purchasing departments to review their supply methods to limit shortages and costs… Having initiated a diversification strategy in primary packaging and containers since 2020, PSE's lead in this sector enables us to obtain valuable feedback and accelerate this diversification.”

“With this partnership, we can finally meet the needs of our customers for both industrial packaging and mass consumption, to deploy to new countries. Our experience with our customers good club, for 2 years, allows us today to position ourselves as a precursor and leader in the washing of primary packaging on the English market. In addition, Eternity Systems' 25 years of experience in the industrialization of washing lines with strong automation, and health and safety issues focus reinforce our resources, so we hope to position ourselves together as the essential players for the industrial washing of primary, secondary and tertiary containers and packaging, supported by real-time transport, storage and traceability capacities.“ Andrew Parkinson, CEO of PSE.

Thus the 2 companies are present in 16 industrial washing centers in Europe and 5 in North America for a total capacity of 1 billion units/year, accompanied by transport, storage and traceability capacities:

  • France: Lisses, Cestas, Cavaillon, Tremorel
  • Germany: Krefeld, Voerde, Crailsheim
  • Spain: Valencia, Yunquera de Henares

Acquisition of LIP by ETERNITY SYSTEMS

This transaction allows Eternity Systems to pursue its growth strategy and to diversify into the market for industrial washing of reusable packaging for the food industry.

Eternity Systems, a French expert in the industrial washing of reusable containers and packaging for 25 years and a leader in its sector, announces the acquisition of LIP, which specializes in the washing of plastic crates and pallets for the food industry. This operation allows Eternity Systems to respond to three strategic challenges:

  • Accelerate the company's growth in the market for industrial washing of reusable packaging for the food industry
  • Develop synergies between the historical activities of the two specialists
  • Develop new markets where the know-how of the two companies could be increased tenfold

The Gildas Bouilly, CEO of Eternity Systems: “The industrial washing segment is a booming market, pulled upwards on one side by a society increasingly inclined to consume in a more sustainable way and another by economic actors who make serious commitments to meet their expectations. The agri-food industry sector is changing and is a real source of growth for us. It is logical that we surround ourselves with the most competent players in the field to support our customers and future customers in this sector who need a reliable, secure, state-of-the-art industrial solution that respects all the strictest health standards. The development of responsible consumption also involves a regional network of reuse activities, of which industrial washing is a key step To do this, we are happy to be able to count on the involvement and know-how of all LIP employees.”

“With this first acquisition, Eternity Systems consolidates its position as the world industrial leader in the washing of reusable crates and enables it to meet the growing demand for expertise asked by industrial players in the sector.” Benoit CHOPPIN, Managing Director of CAPZA.

Located in Trémorel in the Côtes-d'Armor, LIP benefits from state-of-the-art washing lines with a capacity of 10M units/year and is recognized in its market as a leading player. The washing process complies with the latest environmental standards (ISO9001; ISO14001) and is carried out in compliance with the strictest health standards in force because the crates recovered, washed and then reshipped are intended to receive foodstuffs, mostly meat.

ETERNITY Systems is committed alongside the South Region to reduce plastic pollution

The French expert in the industrial washing of reusable containers and packaging is a signatory of the Regional Charter Zero Plastic Waste in the Mediterranean

Since 2016, the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region has been committed to a strong policy to combat this pollution through its “zero plastic waste in the Mediterranean” as part of its regional climate plan “Une Cop d'avance”. This regional program aims to both protect natural environments and promote plastic recycling. In this context, the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region is proposing a “Zero Plastic Waste” commitment charter, the management of which has been entrusted to the Regional Agency for Biodiversity and the Environment [ARBE] since April 2019. This charter invites many regional stakeholders to commit, including companies established in the region.

ETERNITY Systems is a French expert in the industrial washing of reusable containers and packaging for 25 years, leader in its sector, which today has 16 tailor-made industrial washing centers and 75 washing lines, distributed in 6 countries, to allow the reuse of packaging and containers in all industries: food, cosmetics, detergents, agri-food and other industries, as well as a transport, storage and logistics activity for goods

Present in Cavaillon since 2011 with 78 employees, ETERNITY Systems supports its customers throughout the reuse value chain. Its activity in Cavaillon represents 72 million packages washed per year, which are then reintroduced into the supply chains. As a signatory to the Charter, ETERNITY Systems undertakes to put its industrial know-how at the service of reuse and bulk within the South Region by co-constructing loops adapted to their needs with local players.

For Eleanor Blondeau, New Projects Manager at ETERNITY Systems and Circular Economy Expert : “100 billion disposable packaging are consumed each year in France while industrial resources are now able to wash, treat and reintroduce them into the consumer circuit! Fortunately, the French take the full measure of this nonsense and are more and more numerous to act by consuming in a more responsible way. As a company established in the region and whose activity is centered on reuse and the end of single use, it was essential for ETERNITY Systems to commit alongside the South Region and ARBE as part of the signing of the Zero Waste Regional Charter to actively contribute to the reduction of pollution linked to single use in the environment. »

For Fabrice Valentin, Manager of the Cavaillon site : "It is a source of pride to see our site committing alongside the territory, we are eager to present our tools to put them at the service of local agri-food players, whether for washing, transport and storage of crates or pallets such as this is the case so far or soon for the washing of primary packaging for supermarkets, commercial and collective catering and events”.

“We operate in a fast-growing market which is driven upwards by the evolution of our society and a change in our consumption habits. Today consumers are more and more inclined to reduce their packaging by encouraging recycling and reuse, and this is only the beginning. Our customers are naturally impacted and we are seeing an exponential growth in our industrial washing business which is accompanied by an increased need to find storage places to store goods. Our new logistics center is an illustration of this. We are committed to meeting the needs of our customers and providing them with an optimal quality of service thanks to our global industrial know-how in washing, logistics, traceability and automation. » says Gildas Bouilly, CEO ofETERNITY SYSTEMS.

ETERNITY Systems at the Prod&Pack 2021 show

Lyon, November 19, 2021 – First trade show for the team ETERNITY Systems, which was present at the Prod&Pack 2021 show, bringing together more than 600 exhibitors from different sectors of activity related to packaging.

After +30 years without commercial action or communication service, ETERNITY Systems begins its transformation by developing its notoriety and its contribution to the reuse ecosystem. In order to get this new dynamic off the ground, the company selected the reference packaging exhibition Prod&Pack to share its expertise, its equipment and its passion for Reuse!

During the event, the first edition of the National Reemployment Conference took place. These meetings consist of a general update on the progress of reuse in France with interventions from the best experts and reference institutions on the subject. As a speaker through Eléonore BLONDEAU, we shared our existing achievements and our ambitions for diversification towards the collection, transport, repair, washing and storage of primary packaging and containers.

We were also on the Re-Use Packaging Line whose objective was to involve around twenty suppliers each exercising their field of specialization, throughout their stroll visitors could discover all the stages of the reuse process in full size, from its distribution to its repackaging in order to represent live the life of a reuse loop.

As an expert in packaging washing, ETERNITY Systems therefore intervened at the conclusion of this line, demonstrating that packaging can absolutely be sorted, washed, disinfected and dried to then be reused for the next use while respecting the best hygiene and food safety constraints.

The objective was common for each of the suppliers: to advocate the circular economy, by making visitors understand how reusable packaging is an essential alternative solution in order to reduce waste linked to single use and that all stakeholders are ready to duplicate this model on a large scale, whether for food but also for cosmetics and detergents.

ETERNITY Systems signs the “Delivered Catering” Charter

For several years, and even more so since the health crisis, home meal delivery has experienced exponential growth (+20% per year). However, this trend is accompanied by another progression: that of the use of single-use packaging. Indeed, according to the latest official data from Eurostat, Europeans produce +10kg of waste on average per year, or around 200kg of packaging waste per inhabitant in France, above the European average of 187 kg.

We then witness a phenomenon of waste and overpackaging, thus creating harmful impacts on the environment.

It is in this context thatETERNITY Systems signed on February 15 the “Delivered Catering” charter, along with the Ministry of Ecological Transition and 19 other players in restoration, reuse and packaging.

What does the “Delivered Catering Charter” contain?

By signing this charter, ETERNITY Systems and the other players are committed to proposing viable solutions, contributing to the reduction of waste linked to disposable packaging. This charter is structured into 10 commitments, structured around 4 main axes: reuse, reduction, recycling and awareness.

The 10 commitments are:

  • The objective of 50% of packaging delivered without single-use plastic by 2022 and 70 % by 2023;
  • Le banning plastic bags by restaurants for delivery by 1erJanuary 2023;
  • The end of the systematic delivery of cutlery and sauces from the 1er March 2021;
  • The experiments de local reuse solutions containers and packaging;
  • The passage 100% reused containers delivered to corporate catering locations by January 1, 2023;
  • 70% reusable packaging to The dishes used for logistics between the kitchens, warehouses and delivery points;
  • Le ban on plastic resins the most problematic from July 1, 2021: PVC, all types of polystyrene, opaque PET, complexes, etc.;
  • La visibility of virtuous restaurants by the platforms;
  • Strengthening information customers on the gesture of sorting of packaging for home and business deliveries.

What work has been carried out since signing?

Both on the part of the signatories and the Ministry of Ecological Transition, work has been carried out:

  • An inventory of reuse practices via a questionnaire intended for all stakeholders;
  • The establishment of thematic working groups between the signatories;
  • Implementation of reporting in order to identify commitments that are on track and those that need to be intensified.

In addition, a monitoring committee bringing together the signatories and various stakeholders (NGOs, unions, etc.) was set up for bimonthly meetings.

But the takeaway is the interest shown by 15 additional signatories to join the movement and join forces to meet the commitments.

White WaveDesign logo ETERNITY Systems

ETERNITY SYSTEMS, which operates in the very strategic sector of reuse for the development of a circular economy, is restructuring its organization to support its growth, be part of a territorial approach and penetrate new sectors of activity

ETERNITY SYSTEMS, becomes the brand of the Group which has existed for more than 25 years, thus being a historic player, until now little known, in terms of industrial washing of transport crates of reusable agri-food products for supermarkets. The Group, whose headquarters is based in Perpignan, brings together more than 1 employees around the world with 200 washing lines in 75 countries spread across Europe and North America, for an annual turnover of more than €6 million. ETERNITY SYSTEMS evolves on the reuse market for the development of a circular economy, estimated at more than 1 billion euros in France according to Ademe.

“We have developed expertise in industrial washing and have at the same time accompanied our offer with a turnkey logistics solution to meet our customers' requirements in terms of quality and traceability. In 2019, we realized that a turning point in our business was taking place, with the development of a circular economy at the heart of which is the reuse of primary, secondary and tertiary containers and packaging. We have therefore opted for a new strategic orientation and have decided to embark on the race in 2020 in order to make available to this new economy our industrial know-how in terms of washing, logistics, traceability and automation. This is why, in this perspective of development and growth, launching a new Group brand takes on its full meaning. » says Gildas Bouilly, CEO of ETERNITY SYSTEMS.

In 2021, the fund Capza Capital enters the capital to finance this diversification, allowing ETERNITY SYSTEMS to accelerate its development on 3 key markets via the structuring of 3 brands for its 3 areas of expertise, which are today:

MT SYSTEMS Industrial Solutions : for washing reusable crates for the food industry (fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, bakery, etc.)

IPS Industrial Packaging Service : for reusable secondary containers and tertiary packaging used in supply chains such as pallets, dollies, boxes, silos, bins, etc. across all industries (e-commerce, automotive, etc.).

CPS Consumer Packaging Service : for primary containers such as bottles, tupperware, pots, jars, gourmet containers or cups, whether these packaging are in glass, PP or stainless steel. With CPS, the Group plans to push innovation further by developing a network of regional micro-factories in order to limit the impact of transport in the LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) of container reuse.

On each of these markets, the company will offer a turnkey offer including: sorting, industrial washing, logistics, storage, traceability and repair.

“Our new organization defines our 3 centers of excellence, which support our professional customers throughout the reuse value chain. It will also allow us to enter new strategic business sectors that will soon have to be transformed to respect the major environmental commitments that have been made in terms of reuse in favor of a sustainable economy, such as cosmetics, detergents, health or the automotive industry for example. According to our forecasts, these new sectors represent a growth potential of +45% for our activity over the next 5 years.” precise Franck andrieux, Chief International Business Developer of ETERNITY SYSTEMS.

To support its growth, ETERNITY SYSTEMS will open its first micro-factory in France in 2022. The capacity should be around 40 containers washed per day, i.e. a target of 000 million containers washed per year. The site will also be a place of R&D and experimentation for the Group in order to continue to innovate and meet the performance and quality expectations required by this activity with high health and safety challenges.

CAPZA enters the capital of MT SYSTEMS

CAPZA acquires a minority stake in the Group MT SYSTEMS, now ETERNITY Systems, leader in the washing of reusable bins for the food industry.

CAPZA acquires a minority stake in the Group MT SYSTEMS, leader in the washing of reusable bins for the food industry. The objective of this operation is to accelerate the development of MT SYSTEMS, via targeted acquisition operations, in France and abroad, in a fast-growing niche market responding to sustainable development issues.

Created in 1994 and based in Perpignan, MT SYSTEMS is the world leader in the washing of reusable bins for the food industry, bins used to package and transport foodstuffs (fruits and vegetables, meat, bakery products, fish, etc.). Established in 6 countries in Europe (France, Spain, Portugal and Germany) and North America (United States and Canada) with 13 washing sites, the Group achieved a turnover of nearly €100 million. in 2020, washing more than 700 million bins. MT SYSTEMS today employs 1 people and has 200 sites in France, in Lisses (3), Cestas (91) and Cavaillon (33).

MT SYSTEMS enjoys a central position within a circular ecosystem bringing together producers, supermarkets and poolers (suppliers of reusable plastic bins). The group's activity makes it possible to respond to the sustainable development challenges of these players, in a logic of circular economy and waste reduction – the food superstores having made commitments on these subjects.

Reusable (recycled) plastic bins make it possible to limit food waste thanks to the best quality of transport, and to reduce the volume of waste linked to conventional disposable bins made of cardboard, wood, polystyrene. They thus consume less water and cause less greenhouse gas emissions. The washing of bins also meets public health requirements (decontamination of containers), reinforced by the context of the global health crisis.

“Our desire is to support the growth of MT SYSTEMS enabling it to consolidate its position as the global industrial leader in the washing of reusable containers.” Benoit CHOPPIN, Co-Head France Flex Equity.

The arrival of CAPZA in the capital aims to give MT SYSTEMS significant financial resources as well as additional expertise to accelerate its development in a fast-growing niche market, supported among other things by sustainable development issues, and to establish itself in new countries in order to complete its international footprint, particularly in UK and South America.

MT SYSTEMS indeed wishes to carry out a strategy of diversification in sectors related to its historical activity via a policy of targeted acquisitions. The Group thus aims to consolidate companies specializing in the washing of various containers, to establish its know-how in the automation of industrial washing processes, and to consolidate its position as the world leader in industrial washing in the medium term.

CAPZA enters the capital of the Group as a minority shareholder, the shareholders-founders Gildas Bouilly and Serge Perez retaining control of the Group. The operation is also an opportunity for the management team to strengthen its capital.

« The industrial washing segment is a growing market. By backing this activity with CAPZA, we are giving it the means to develop within a structure that will enable it to strengthen its positions on its markets and also on new markets. » Gildas BOUILLY, Chairman of MT SYSTEMS

« We were won over by the project to develop an exciting profession carried out with talent by Gildas Bouilly and his team. Our desire is to support the growth of MT SYSTEMS allowing it to consolidate its position as the world industrial leader in the washing of reusable bins and also to contribute to the future expansion of MT SYSTEMS" Benoit CHOPPIN, Co-Head France Flex Equity at CAPZA
